In the paper shop
golden greed stands at the counter
Screw-eyed face shut
Waving its tickets impatiently
Queues build at the newspaper till
Ignored by the staff
Stamping out in disgust
Buying papers in Woolworths
or the street
Greed served first
Expectation standing naked
Furious closing face moaning loss
Till staff intent
Clucking in sympathy
Moving eyes on quickly
Collecting money from the next
-
Next door
Barnardos struggles as money is removed
leaving quicksand quivering
beneath its feet
