People don't anticipate their future life
or see their child will grow become adult
and realise that they - and theirs - will carry on
until in life's renewal they will die
But actions wrought by them
or cruel words which carve their children's life
and score deep in young memory
- pain which haunts as they become adult -
are never given proper weight as they are wrought
and cripple innocence which strives to grow
and push unyieldingly their child away
into that bleak abyss where love is pain
